 Who doesn’t love a good prank? We’re talking the harmless pranks that leave you with a good memory. April Fools’ Day is a magical advertising holiday. Join in on the brands that use a small amount of their marketing budget to come up with funny, smart & engaging pranks for their audience. We are only a few days away from April 1st already so it’s time to get that foolish part of your brain working. When you do it tastefully, an April Fools’ Day joke is the perfect way for people to see the fun side of your company. Here are a few of our favorite hoaxes from the past.

Beer-Infused Oranges from Blue Moon

In 2015, Blue Moon tweeted that they had “worked with renowned fruiticulturists to invent the world’s first beer infused oranges. #BrewingBreakthrough”. There’s nothing better than a fresh slice of orange with a glass of Blue Moon, but why bother if you could have one of these, right?

Gmail Paper 

Google has created a name for itself when it comes to April Fools’ Day jokes. Some years they have been good enough for a chuckle but some years, their jokes have been totally believable. In 2007, Google said that they were going to provide their users with a new way to archive their old message: paper copies. They joked that once you agreed, a big stack of paper archives would be delivered to your home. Funny? You bet but it’s also a great reminder of one of the foundational features of their product.

Honda’s emoji registration plates

Last year, in 2016, Honda revealed pictures of the first ever emoji license plate on their Honda Civic Type R model. According to Honda, “research has found 96% of under-30s in the UK prefer emoji plates over their traditional counterparts.” Obviously, it was a joke and who knows how those under-30s really feel but Honda might have been on to something with this.
