We certainly hope 2021 has filled your life with reasons to be grateful. And, we hope that it’s been an easier year than last, especially for you business owners. All of us are glad that 2020 is a thing of the past, it can only go up from here! Each of us here at KD Kanopy are not only grateful for a more normal year, but are especially grateful to have YOU in our lives.
Last year at this time we got to be part of a moment that we will always remember. The hugging tent allowed something we hadn’t seen much of during the pandemic – people who have been separated for months, finally able to share a hug. You can watch the story unfold on national news here!
The incredible idea came from a nurse practitioner in Northern Colorado who had been working on a sub-committee brainstorming ways to help people living in the long-term care community during the pandemic.
These hugging structures originated in Brazil but have, luckily, made it to the United States. And we are happy to have helped create one that now lives in Colorado.
This nurse built the first hugging tent using a canopy in order for it to be easily stored and transported to different settings. Donations came pouring in from the Longmont, CO community and KD Kanopy entered the picture.
They chose a KD for their final product because of how solid our canopies are built and how easy they are to use. With the Velcro already in place around the top of the canopy, all they had to do was attach the thick plastic sheeting walls and voila!
We are so happy and beyond honored to have made this hugging tent into a reality. These hugging tents have been a huge success for the long-term care residents who haven’t had any physical contact with their loved ones in 8 months.
This hardworking committee is working on an instruction manual so that others are able to implement the hugging tent to serve their own communities. And by calling on us at KD Kanopy, we were able to help make this dream a reality for you too. If you could still put a hugging tent to use, we hope to be part of your process soon.
